You don’t have to visit Holland to see this jewel of a painting in the next few months.

Johannes Vermeer
“De Melkmeid” (The Milkmaid)
c. 1658-1661
oil on canvas, 17 7/8 x 16 1/8 in. (45.5 x 41 cm.)
collection of The Rijksmuseum - Amsterdam, The Netherlands
So, if you live in the US, (or are visiting New York City), here’s your chance ...
Johannes Vermeer’s famous painting, “The Milkmaid”, is to be loaned by Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum to the Metropolitan Museum of Arts in New York for a special exhibition of 17th century Dutch artists, reports the AP press agency.
According to the AP report, it will be the first time the Vermeer masterpiece, which was painted in 1657-1658, has been on show in the United States in 70 years.
The exhibition, which runs from September 10, 2009 to the end of November 2009, will also feature five other works by Johannes Vermeer from the Metropolitan Museum of Arts’ own collection.
I’d go see this exhibition ... if I lived in the US. :o)
Of course, I have seen “The Milkmaid” in the Rijkmuseum, on many occasions. She’s lovely!
