Dutch Pea Soup to the rescue! - Nederlandse Erwtensoep schiet te hulp!

OMG! The most pitiful couple on the street are coughing, wheezing, moaning, groaning, etc. !!
Not us, silly readers, I'm talking about our humans!! Yep, they are now BOTH sick!!

So look! We made a big kettle of Dutch Pea Soup (Nederlandse Erwtensoep) for them - it's just as good (or maybe better), than chicken soup for what ails you! :-)

The recipe came from our human Dutch "oma" (grandmother). It's so yummy (lekker) .

This soup is so good, even Finn likes it (it's not just the pork & sausage he likes, he really likes the split peas ... rofl) Look, I caught him licking the bowl ... naughty cat! (stoute kat) .

I sure hope our humans get better soon because spring is here ( a bit early, but there ya go) -there already are crocus (krokus) blooming in the back garden (achtertuin) !

And I'm not a very good nurse!! I'd rather be outside ...

Are you listening "moeder en vader" ?!!
Tot kijk, (see you)

Dear Finn & Sacha,
Patience is a feline virtue. But I understand that you only want your Moeder and Vader to get well very soon! I hope your Mom posts the recipe for your human Oma's yummy pea soup. We could use some "good for what ails you" over here as well. Keep taking good care of yourselves and your folks and give them our best wishes!

Just Google, there are plenty of English sites for Dutch pea soup.
I always thought that a spoon should stay standing in a good kettle of pea soup?!

Hope you're two are feeling a bit (?) a LOT ! better now. Just in time to enjoy spring. Don't forget the "Sneeuwklokjes!"

Hi Lee,
Hmm... a knol is not a turnip... it's celeric. It's just known as "knol" overhere, but the real name is "knolselderij". And Dutch roggebrood is nothing at all like American rye bread! Nothing like it...very dark, full grain, sort of molasses flavored - almost like a piece of cake even. "Speklappen" is uhmm, what my Southern American father used to call "streak o' fat, streak o' lean" or "fat back", also very thick unlike normal American bacon. See I would have to send you these things! LOL

Anyway René is right, there's lots of recipes on the web for Dutch Pea Soup although probably not as good as our "Omas"...hee hee

Hey René,
Feeling a bit better, but my Nederlander is really sick.
Yes, the spoon did stand up in the pot, on the second day! hee hee
Ahh "sneeuwklokjes" (snowdrops in english), Ja! We don't have any in our achtertuin, but I saw some in the park nearby. Mooi, erg mooi! Will have to go back on a good day (and when I really feel better) and draw or paint them.

Tot ziens!
