Happy Valentine's Day - - - - - - - - - - - - - Fijne Valentijnsdag

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
It's time for chocolate
From "us", to "you"!

And now the very loosely translated Dutch version, with some
'poetic license' taken!

Rozen zijn rood,
Viooltjes zijn blauw,
Het is tijd voor chocolade,
Van "ons", voor "jou"!
(What a sappy poem, but Finn made me write it * eye roll* Finn is the romantic in the house.)

Of course, as you might suspect, our "mom"did these drawings of chocolates. We don't draw, we're cats, although we can walk through ink & paint and make nice paw prints everywhere ... hmm, we like to think of ourselves as 'purrrrformance artists'. *grin*

She used Primacolors, Faber-Castell Polychromos and Caran d'Ache Pablos colored pencils on both of these drawings. Although the Primacolors are wax-based pencils and the Polychromos & Pablos are oil-based pencils, they do work/blend well together... never fear!

The support used is La Carte Pastel card made by Sennelier (a boardlike, abrasive, surface - aka "sanded"). "Mom" likes to use this surface even though it can be tricky to work on because you can not, under any circumstances, get this paper wet - it will become a mess! The surface is made up of tiny bits of pH neutral vegetable flakes - thus, no water can be applied. However, "mom" likes the range of colors the La Carte Pastel card is available in and the sanded surface is not as rough/abrasive as other similar papers (i.e., Colourfix and Wallis), so it is not too bad at wearing down the penicls.

The chocolates were drawn from life and we were amazed at her ability to not gobble them up when she was working on these pieces!! If they had been fishcakes and we had to draw them, forget it, they'd not last very long... probably would have only the remainders to draw... hee hee. If you'd like to see a step-by-step 'WIP' ('work in progress' in english; believe us that you don't want to know what 'wip' means in dutch...we're not telling either) of the "Dutch Chocolate is Good" drawing, then click on this link to the thread in the Colored Pencil Forum at WetCanvas! "Did you want chocolate?"

We hope you have a wonderful Valentine's Day with loads of sweetness in your lives ... today and always!

Liefs, (Love)
Sacha & Finn

OK, I'm amazed at your ability not to eat the chocolate while drawing them! Well done, you!

Silly - you never eat the chocolates while you're drawing them. You eat them when you've finished - a good piece of work always gets a treat!

Thanks Tara!

Katherine - LOL
"Silly - you never eat the chocolates while you're drawing them" : 'Tis true! That's what the spare box is for, eh?

Thanks ladies!
