Celebrating Koninginnedag 2010 (Queen's Day) with our Prinses Irene Tulips

Prinses Irene Tulips - April 2010

For the past 3 years (in autumn), we've planted these lovely, stripey orange, Prinses Irene tulips in our garden and they have never failed to delight us each spring -this year is no exception! The tulips are named after one of the sisters of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands and orange is the color of the the Dutch Royal family, so most orange tulips, here in Holland, get a royal name too! :o)

It seems to me that the Prinses Irene tulips are always in their full glory come Koninginnedag (Queen's Day), which is a national holiday in the Netherlands to celebrate the Queen's birthday. Queen Beatrix is the current monarch of the Netherlands and although her actual birthday in in January, today, April 30th, is the day of the nationwide celebration.

You'll find my other posts about Koninginnedag here:

Today is Queen's Day!~Vandaag is het Koninginnedag! - 2007 (this post has more of the history of the celebration)

Oranje Boven!
And Happy Koninginnedag - even if you're not Dutch! ;o)

tot ziens,
Judy & Sacha (my own "princess")

Hi, my name is Tiffany Jansen and I've been following your blog, but just put 2 and 2 together. In 2009 I joined the IWCU and just last month I took over as editor of The Contact, thus getting gifted the "Contacts of Old" if you will. I've been reading through them to get ideas for the club and have been seeing your name all over the issue :) I was looking through entries on Queen's Day on the blogs I follow for an Ultimate Queen's Day blog post I'd like to do (someday), making this the first time I've seen your blog sine going through the contacts! So I just wanted to say hi and marvel how small the world is! Keep blogging :) (

Hi Tiffany,

Small world indeed!!

Yep, I was the editor of "The Contact" for 3 years and then I did the lay-out work for it for another year or so. It's down to me that it's in the magazine form it's in now...don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing..LOL
Anyway, my best wishes and good luck to you as the new editor and say "hi" to everyone in the IWCU for me.
