The TV trees in Beeld en Geluid Museum - drawing in my moleskine.

As promised, the drawings I did in my moleskine while at the Beeld en Geluid Instituut. This particular Moleskine is dedicated to drawings of places I have visited in the Netherlands.

As I wrote in a previous post, although you're not allowed to take photos inside the Beeld en Geluid Museum (and I did not), no one said you couldn't sketch or draw - which is one of the advantages of sketching/drawing on site, anywhere you go. I did most of these sketches inside, while watching the newsreels and then  filled in a lot of the color while we had lunch outside on the lovely patio with the visiting crow that I showed in a previous post.

My husband and I were watching old, Dutch television newsreels being shown on what looked to me like funky TV trees. I’m not sure if they were meant to be orange trees, but that’s what the orbs with the television screens in them looked like to me and they were orange in color. It was very interesting watching the old newsreels/clips – many of them had been shot in the 1930’s, some during WWII (during the occupation of Holland) and of course, after the war (scenes of the liberation).

It was also most interesting, to me anyway, just seeing the clips of everyday life in the Netherlands back in the 30’s/40’s and how much times have changed (thankfully we don’t have to beat rugs by hand anymore and no more wearing klompen (wooden shoes)) ... though, most Dutch folks do still ride bicycles everywhere – it’s good for you. :o)

You are allowed take pics outside of the beautifully colorful building of the Beeld en Geluid Instituut and also in the inner lobby area with its spectacular, colorful effect that's almost like being inside a stained glass window. It's a really beautiful building. Here’s a photo mosaic I’ve made of some of the pics I shot on the day. In one of the squares pictured in the mosaic, you'll see a sculpture of a television cameraman which is just across the street from the Beeld en Geluid Instituut - most appropriate for the Media Park location as that's where many of the television and radio programs are produced in the Netherlands.

This Wednesday, I'm off again to Limoges, France until the 2nd week of October - yay! While I'm there, if I get a chance and find a good WiFi spot, I may post from there - but I may also be too busy enjoying myself! Yes, I'll be doing more drawings in my Travels in France moleskine (starting volume 4 with this trip).

tot ziens,
Judy
