Autumn Arrives! ~ The Japanese folded moleskine drawing "story" still continues.

The arrival of Autumn, at last, has prompted me to continue working on my imaginary visual story in my Japanese Folded Moleskine.

I've never really abandoned this project, but it is, as most of my projects are, rather time consuming. Apparently, I am much more productive during the cooler, or colder, months of the year.

My how time flies - October 2008 was the last time I posted an update about this project, even though I have continued working on it since then.
Here's a link to that post: The Folded Moleskine Continues.

I wonder which season/seasons do you prefer, or which season/seasons inspire you?

Obviously, I love Autumn!
:o)

tot de volgende keer (until next time),

Crown Imperial Fritillaria (time to buy some bulbs!) ~ Colored pencil on black paper

It's time to buy spring bulbs for the garden! Every time we visit the Keukenhof gardens in Lisse, (province North Holland),  we are always struck by the elegance and height of these plants.

For years, we've been wanting to get some bulbs for these tall beauties for our garden here in Utrecht. With its flame-orange flowers, this variety of fritillaria would be a perfect fit in our garden, but we didn't seem to have a good place for them as they are quite tall.

However, since our garden has evolved, I now know exactly where we will plant them - then we'll wait for spring 2013, with fingers crossed!

For this drawing, I used:
~ Faber-Castell Polychromos reg. colored pencils
~ Lyra Rembrandt Polycolor reg. colored pencils
~ Caran D'Ache Pablos reg. colored pencils
~ Talens van Gogh reg. colored pencils
~ Sanford Prismacolors White reg. colored pencil
~ Black Stonehenge paper
~ Several of my own photos of the Crown Imperial Fritillarias

Red Onion Day ~ Rode Uidag : Colored Pencil on Black Paper

Red Onion Day ~ Rode Uidag

Another one of my "vegetables in a 'classic' setting" drawings. Red onions seem to be in season now in our grocery stores, so along with cooking with them, I've been drawing and painting them.

The onion goes along with the Red Pepper Day - Rode Paprikadag drawing I did. The pepper drawing started my idea of doing a group of these imaginary settings for vegetable still-life pieces. There will be more in this group, eventually, probably 12 small drawings of different vegetables. All of the drawings in this group will be similarly smallish in size (no larger than 8 inches in height), using colored pencils, done on black paper and set in imaginary backgrounds.

Meanwhile, (as if I have nothing else to do), I have been working on another, larger, piece - not a veg this time, but strawberries.
Here's a taste ...

Obviously, it's also important that your fingernail polish matches the drawing ... lol. When the drawing is  complete, I'll post it to this blog. Pure colored pencil work, for me, can often take a long time to complete - especially if you are your worst critic, the way I am with me! ;o)

I definitely need more hours in a day and days in a month ....

Judy
